As I get older I really start examining my life and appreciating all of the blessings I have in it. I feel fortunate to have celebrated my 47th birthday yesterday. I have to admit that it’s not so bad…I mean physically, well, you know…but I am grateful for my life. My husband Tony, my kids Tara and A.J. , my whole family and many, many friends. I love our dairy, my community and the hope for things to come. I can say this even though we have been going through the worst financially challenging time ever…I am grateful for the many gifts God has blessed me with.
I love my community, Riverdale, California just celebrated its annual Spring Festival. They had a parade, booths, quad races, and a Rodeo. I love being part of a community that shares in so much of what I love and appreciate…God, hard work, agriculture, and people.
Many students that live away at college come home for the Spring Festival. Many brought friends from other communities to get a taste of the rural life and visit with their families. I got to visit with Jacob Conway who attends Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He had been with Chica this past week and reported that she scored a “4” rating. I am the first to admit that I don’t really know what that means since I have never shown cows. Jacob assured me that it wasn’t “too bad” but she is a “little over weight”! What can I say…Chica does loves her grain! Jacob also told me that is does have a bit of a “diva” attitude in the milk barn. She apparently likes to be the first in and not proceed forward. I had mentioned to my husband that maybe that was because of the difference in milk parlors (they have a Herringbone, we have a Parallel)…Tony was quick to say “Nope…she’s just spoiled”
I also have been very busy with my new venture of making cheese. I make a flavored Fromage Blanc that I plan to sell at the local farmers markets! My pasteurizer just got approved by the state inspector and I am off to the new phase of my “cheese room”. I now feel a mix of nerves and excitement. Excitement in getting closer to my dream. Nerves as any new venture makes me feel and hopes for its success. So please keep me in your prayers and well wishes as I proceed further in seeing this come to reality!
