Also I have put some pictures of the main “milking” breeds.
We have always had black and white Holstein. My grandfather, father, and husband. I didn’t even know there were other “milking” cows. My husband has gotten out of the “box” a bit. Last year he called me over to show me some “Red” Holstein bulls he bought…for me! He said that we didn’t have enough “redheads” around the place (meaning I was the only one) LOL! So slowly we are getting some more “REDS” I don’t know if it’s just me but they are kinda sassy….you know redheads!
Labeling for Cows got a bit messed up..sorry…they are Ayshire/Brown Swiss/Guernsey/Jersey/Holstein/Milking Shorthorn!

[...] As living on a dairy all of my life I have always been asked many “Cow” questions. Here are a few of the frequent “Cow” questions I have been asked over the years. (Read full story here on A Dairy Goddess’s Blog) [...]
Hello Dairy Goddess:
Since you are a Goddess, a milk and dairy lover, a lover of cows; please tell us what you think about the Book, “The Raw Milk Revolution” by David Gumpert.
We like to know that we are in good company and have your support. After all, us Milkmen are only demigods.
Thank you.
The Milkmen USA
I have ordered “The Raw Milk Revolution” by David G. as commanded by respected demi-gods LOL!
I love and respect all dairy and especially dairymen… as I said I grew up on Raw milk as well as my kids…it’s just this sue happy society that
bothers me. One bad story…(someone sick or dies..claims milk) it’s bad for ALL dairy. I will read the book and let you know!
http://roostershamblin.wordpress.com/ would you please spend a few minutes reading my blog which is everything chicken. I have been raising more than 50 breeds of chickens 40 years.
I got to go to the the World Dairy Expo in 2008 and it was so awesome to see all the different breeds. I loved the Brown Swiss!

I just stumbled across your blog and think it’s great! We rotational graze our herd (60) and have Jersey, Brown Swiss, Milking Shorthorn, Ayrshire, Lineback, American White Belted (AKA Dutchbelted), some crossbred (great grazers) and a few Holsteins for color. We always have people stop and ask about the different cows that they see as they drive by. We make sure that we take the time to talk to them and explain any of their questions.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! That sounds like a beautiful “bovine” rainbow of cows you have…sounds beautiful! Thanks for sharing! Barbara

I was told today that a cow can not produce milk utill she has a calf. Is this correct ?
Hi Tom, This is correct! As humans, the females do not produce milk until they have a baby. Thank you for asking. Feel free to ask any other questions you might have! Barbara
